4-2 114065 Rev. A
Enabling and Disabling RIP on an Interface
When you add RIP to an IP interface, RIP is automatically enabled on that
interface.
You can use Site Manager to disable and re-enable RIP on an interface.
Selecting the RIP Version
You can specify whether RIP sends Version 1 updates, Version 2 updates with no
aggregation of subnets, or Version 2 updates with subnet aggregation.
• In RIP Version 1 mode, RIP generates Version 1 updates only, using the
broadcast address as specified in RFC 1058. RIP aggregates subnet
information.
• In RIP Version 2 mode, RIP generates Version 2 updates, using the multicast
address 224.0.0.9 as specified in the RIP Version 2 RFC, 1388. RIP does not
aggregate subnet information.
• In RIP Version 2 mode with aggregation, RIP generates RIP Version 2
updates, using the multicast address, and performs aggregation of subnets into
a natural network advertisement on interfaces belonging to another network.
In both Version 2 modes, RIP checks for a password on all received updates (see
“Authenticating the Password on a Version 2 Update” on page 4-6).
By default RIP sends Version 1 updates. You can use Site Manager to select
Version 2 with or without aggregation of subnet information.
