Using the Technician Interface to Configure and Run Packet Capture

Enter the following commands at the command-line interface of the Sun
workstation:
1. Issue the following command to start FTP:
FTP

Issue the following command to establish an FTP connection with the
router:
open
<IP_address>
<IP_address>
is the IP address of the router.
Example
connect 1.1.1.1

Enter the following command to specify that the file to be transferred is
binary:
mode binary

Enter the following command to retrieve a copy of the file:
get
<filename>
<filename>
is the name displayed after you issued the get command in
“Getting the Name of the P
acket Capture File.”
Example
get pcap0400

Enter the following command to terminate FTP:
quit
Using TFTP to Transfer the File
When you use TFTP to get a Packet Capture file, the TFTP software transfers it
from the processor’s memory instead of from the media.
The procedure for using TFTP to transfer a copy of a file to a Sun workstation or
PC depends on the implementation of TFTP on that system. The following
instructions apply to Sun workstations.
If you are using a PC and need instructions for using TFTP, refer to the
documentation for the TCP/IP stack installed on the PC.
