host An external computer system. Most host computers are of the mini or
mainframe classification. The Avaya MPS can communicate with
host computers to access records, update information, etc.
host enquiry/response
timer
A host response timer. The host enquiry/response timer specifies the
interval allotted for an external host to respond to an enquiry.
If the host does not respond within the host enquiry/response interval,
COMMGR generates ertimeout. The host enquiry/response
interval must be longer than the host intermediate interval.
Also known as the er timer.
For additional information, see Avaya MPS PeriProducer User’s
Guide, and the ertimeout man page.
Contrast with resource error timer.
See also host, host intermediate timer, COMMGR.
host intermediate timer A host response timer. The host intermediate timer specifies a time
interval, which when elapsed, causes the system to speak the
intermediate timeout message to the caller. The intention is to notify
the caller that information requested from an external host is
unavailable, because the host has not yet responded to the query.
Applications do not have to speak this message—the Avaya MPS
speaks it automatically when the host intermediate timer expires.
If the host does not respond within the host intermediate interval,
COMMGR generates intertimeout. The host intermediate
interval must be shorter than the host enquiry/response interval.
Also known as the in timer.
For additional information, see the Avaya MPS PeriProducer User’s
Guide, and the intertimeout condition man page.
Contrast with resource intermediate timer.
See also host, intermediate timeout message, application,
COMMGR.
