IEEE standard for Ethernet LANs.

an.exe

Router software image containing executable ﬁles used to boot an AN or ANH.

asn.exe

Router software image containing executable ﬁles used to boot the ASN.

BOOTP

Bootstrap Protocol, a TCP/IP network protocol that lets network nodes request

startup and conﬁguration information from a BOOTP server node.

conﬁg

Network conﬁguration ﬁle containing proprietary protocol services code.

Diagnostic Monitor

A ﬁrmware command-line interface that network administrators use to manage

Bay Networks AN and ANH routers.

Directed Netboot

Bay Networks procedure for getting router startup ﬁles from a TFTP server on

the IP network.

DLCMI

Data Link Control Management Interface. Speciﬁcation for the use of Frame

Relay products that deﬁnes a method of exchanging status information between

devices.

DRAM SIMM

Dynamic Random-Access Memory (“dee-RAM”) single inline memory module,

the most common type of computer memory. The ASN uses internal DRAM

SIMMs for the router's memory. Dynamic RAM can hold about four times as

much data as static RAM. Contrast with Flash Memory.

driver

A hardware device or program that controls or regulates another device.

Ethernet

Type of network cabling and signaling that operates at the data link layer of the

OSI model.

EZ-Install

Bay Networks default procedure for getting a router conﬁguration ﬁle via a

synchronous interface to a BOOTP server on the IP network.
