Indicates variable values in command syntax
descriptions, new terms, file and directory names, and
book titles.
quotation marks (“ ”) Indicate a literal string in a command line, the title of a
chapter, or a section within a book.
screen text
Indicates BCC or Technician Interface output to a
console or Telnet screen, for example, prompts, system
messages, statistical data, and configuration data.
vertical line (
|
) Separates choices for required or optional command
keywords and arguments. You must enter only one of
the choices available. Do not type the vertical line
when entering a command.
Example: If the command syntax is
show ip routes
|
rip
,
you enter either
show ip routes
or
show ip rip
, but not both.
