Configuring WAN Line Services
4-6 117021-A Rev. A
Select a test state or keep the default, No Loopback. Refer to “Loopback Test
Modes,” later in this chapter, for information about the tests.
Selecting a loopback state disrupts user data transmission through the DSU/CSU
for a period specified in the V.54 Timer parameter.
Configuring the V.54 Loopback Timer
You must set the duration, in seconds, for the loopback testing specified in the
V.54 Loopback parameter. The default value, Zero (0), indicates that loopback
runs indefinitely.
Enter a number of seconds from 1 to 255 for loopback testing to run, or keep the
default, 0 seconds.

Caution: If the router’s only remote circuit is through the DSU/CSU,
selecting a loopback state will leave the router unable to communicate with the
remote router for the duration of the test.
Caution: If the only connection with the remote router is through the
DSU/CSU interface, be sure to set a nonzero value, since loopback testing
leaves the router unable to communicate with the remote DSU/CSU.
