Task 5: Transferring a Customized Software Image

This section describes how to prepare the router to receive the customized image

and how to transfer the customized image to the router.

Preparing a Router to Receive the Customized Image

Refer to Table 5-2 to ﬁnd the section that corresponds to your router hardware

conﬁguration.

Preparing a Flash Card to Receive the Customized Image

To prepare a Flash memory card to receive a customized image:

1. Delete the existing router software image from the Flash memory card

using the Router Files Manager.

The ﬁlename of the image disappears from the Router Files Manager window.

After you delete the image, compare the “Available free space” ﬁeld displayed

in the Router Files Manager window to the “Contiguous free space” ﬁeld.

Although you deleted a ﬁle (in this case, the image), it continues to take up

space until you compact the contents of the Flash card. (See Managing

Routers and BNX Platforms for more information about ﬁle compaction.)

2. Compact the contents of the Flash card.

Select Commands➔Compact in the Router Files Manager window.

3. Click on OK in the conﬁrmation window.

An hourglass appears for the duration of the ﬁle compaction. After several

minutes, a window displays the following message, where x is the volume you

are compacting:

:”, finished successfully.
