Refer to Modifying Software Images for Routers for instructions on customizing

the router software image for a router you want to upgrade. When you finish

customizing the router software image, follow the instructions for converting a

Version 5 conﬁg ﬁle on a PC (Task 2A) or on a UNIX workstation (Task 2B).

About Converting Conﬁguration Files

To transfer a Version 5 conﬁguration ﬁle to the router you want to upgrade, you

must ﬁrst convert the conﬁguration ﬁle to a Version 7.56 binary ﬁle using the

convert.exe utility.

The Site Manager installation software automatically installs the convert.exe

utility on your Site Manager workstation or PC. The convert.exe utility reads the

existing Version 5 conﬁg ﬁle, upgrades conﬁguration parameters and related

features in that ﬁle, and creates the following new ﬁles:

• A Version 7.56 binary conﬁguration ﬁle

The convert.exe utility names this ﬁle <ﬁlename>.v7, where <ﬁlename> is

the name of the ﬁle it reads (typically conﬁg).

• An ASCII report that provides details about each translation mapping

The convert.exe utility names this ﬁle <ﬁlename>.rpt, where <ﬁlename> is

the name of the ﬁle it read (typically conﬁg) and rpt signiﬁes “report.” Use

this ﬁle for troubleshooting only.

When you want to review a conﬁg.rpt ﬁle for troubleshooting purposes, you can

print the ﬁle to the screen or to a printer, or you can display the ﬁle using a text

editor.
