Contiguous Free Space on a Flash Volume

You must determine the amount of free space that you need on the Flash card to

accommodate the customized Version 10.0 router software image and

conﬁguration ﬁles. The amount of contiguous free space available on the target

Flash volume must be greater than the combined size of the customized Version

10.0 router software image and associated ﬁles (such as

conﬁg

ti.cfg

, and, if

appropriate, a Version 10.0 PROM image).

After you ﬁrst boot the Flash card that contains the default

conﬁg

ﬁle, you can

determine the amount of contiguous free space available in a selected volume

by entering the

dinfo

command. The

dinfo

command displays the data shown in

Table 1-1.

Starting with Version 8.10 of the router software, Bay Networks implemented a

new naming convention for router software image ﬁles in AN™, AFN (with

Flash), ASN™, and BN

routers. The Version 10.0 router software image name

for FN, ALN, LN, and CN routers remains

ace.out

The new naming convention provides the following beneﬁts:

• Simpliﬁes how you manage router software image ﬁles on your Site Manager

workstation, beginning with Version 8.10.

• Reduces the complexity of performing future upgrades in a network

containing different routers.

Available Free Space Number of unused bytes on the volume.

Contiguous Free Space Number of unused bytes in the largest block available on
