Each LAN in a closed user group is connected to a bridge through an NML port.

LAN A in the Star Closed User Group, for example, connects to Bridge 1 on NML

Port 1. LAN C connects to Bridge 2 through NML Port 6.

NML Port 1 and NML Port 6 are assigned the Star CUGID. They are also

provided with an access list that contains the Star CUGID.

An NML port adds its CUGID to each frame that enters the bridge from a closed

user group and uses its access list to validate the CUGID on each frame that

attempts to exit the bridge through the port. In this way, traffic on the LANs within

a closed user group is restricted to frames that bear the group’s CUGID.
