Configuring IP Services
3-20
117356-B Rev. 00
Because all traffic over an unnumbered interface uses broadcast addressing at the
link layer, neither an adjacent host specification nor address resolution is required
.
As it does with routes learned over numbered interfaces, IP stores each route
learned over an unnumbered interface in the routing table.
The routing-table entry for a route learned over an unnumbered interface contains
the following values:
Note:
BGP peers, NetBIOS, and BootP cannot be configured directly on an
unnumbered interface.
For information about using Site Manager to configure a BGP peer-to-peer
session on routers connected through unnumbered interfaces, see “Configuring
Peers over an Unnumbered Point-to-Point Link” on page 8-58.
To route NetBIOS packets over an unnumbered interface, you must configure
a static entry to the name server.
To run BootP over unnumbered interfaces, you must select a preferred BootP
server. For instructions, see
Configuring SNMP, BOOTP, DHCP, and RARP
Services
.
Next-hop address 0
Next-hop mask 0
Next-hop interface Circuit number of the unnumbered interface
Note:
Unnumbered interfaces cannot be pinged directly. For this reason, such
interfaces can make it difficult to diagnose router problems.
