Using the Circuitless IP Interface
A
circuitless
IP interface has an IP address that is not mapped to a specific circuit.
If one or more of the router’s IP interfaces become disabled, this circuitless
feature ensures that the router is always reachable using the circuitless IP interface
address, as long as a viable path to the router exists. The IP router can support one
circuitless IP interface.
IP traffic is delivered to and transmitted from the circuitless interface in the same
way as any other IP interface. In addition, the circuitless IP interface can receive
packets from any application.
When you configure a circuitless IP interface, note the following:
• You can configure one circuitless IP interface per router. Additional
circuitless IP interfaces will not initialize.
• You can add BGP and OSPF to a circuitless interface.
• You must assign a unique IP address and subnetwork number to the
circuitless IP interface.
• You
cannot
configure a circuitless IP interface in nonforwarding mode.
